As long as I can remember, people have whispered about the 'Haunted Bridge' in my town. I didn't know it was 'famous' until we read about it in the book 'Weird Oklahoma'. On page 14, I saw a night-time shot of the bridge and the following description:
"When most of the park has shut down and night has fallen, it feels more like a good place for a family massacre." "Like some goat-eating troll, an irritable man, or the spirit of an irritable man, bides his time in the spillway below, waiting for young passersby to harass."
In honor of Halloween coming, we decided to visit the bridge and share it with you. (We visited during the day of course.)
*Insert spooky music ;-) * My daughter, the brave one, went to the bottom of the dam looking for signs of the 'being'. She actually did find some elusive beings, two feral cats. Could they belong to the 'irritable man'? Perhaps. Are they themselves the beings that yowl at passers-by? Perhaps. Maybe they are changelings or hosts to the spirits that haunt it by night.
I didn't tell my daughter that my friends and I once went over this bridge at night and we felt a sudden chill in the air. We heard a far away bellowing. We didn't stay around. We RAN!
Frankly I think people spook themselves out and find what they seek. Apparently my daughter was seeking a cat. BWAHAHAHA
Do you have a 'haunt' in your town?

Ooohhhh... I do love spooky!
Hi Parsley, Boo!!!!!! Now that's spooky, brave girl, nice bridge though. We have a church that's supposed to be haunted, run around it 3 times at midnight and you will disappear, never tried it. Blessings Francine.
Spooky can be fun! We have a couple of civil war battle fields around our area that are said to be haunted...some claim to have seen soldiers battling at night! I have never been brave enough to want to go and find out for myself, lol!
well our house is over 150 years old but its not spooky to me or mom or sam or dietzman or dad.. or the grandmonsters...now thats whats spooky..lol...

I don't know of anything haunted in La Mesa, but I was just up in Jerome, AZ which is supposed to be one of the most haunted towns in the Southwest!
We do not have strange "places"like your bridge in our village.I am glad you went in the afternoon.:)
Ok, that is super spooky! Even in the daylight! But thank you for showing us!!
Spooky story! I love a good spook! Your daughter was brave to go down to the dam alone. Good thing she only found a couple of cats! Scary story about you and your friends there at night.

I don't know if we have a haunt around here, but there's no way I'd go out at night to try to find out. lol
Hey, I have a Weird Washington book!! There is a cemetery VERY close to where I live. A very private and old cemetary. Supposedly there is this one spot where there are steps that go into the ground, but there is nothing there but a dirt wall. Stairway to hell, it was called. Its said that if you descend down the steps, sometimes you will see something on the dirt wall that will supposedly turn you insane. Supposedly one boy lost his mind this way and remains hospitalized to this day. Nobody can find this cemetery anymore. It has been privatized and is hidden by houses on all sides. If you are caught on those grounds, you will be arrested for trespass. I am so curious to see this cemetery! Have seen pics, but that's it.
we are not going anywhere near you town or bridge

That's a cool looking bridge, but not sure I would visit it at night! We have a house in Old Town San Diego called the Whaley House that is supposed to be haunted by the family that lived there many a year ago. I've been on tours there and never saw or heard anything unusual, but they sure do tell a good story about what has been seen by other people :)
betty
Really spooky.
Oh my we have so many it would take forever to list them. Maybe I too will do a haunted London post for everybody. Great idea. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
Spooky!!
I love hearing stories of hauntings and haunted places. How brave of you to venture out to the 'haunted' bridge. Thanks for sharing the story and pics...makes me want to take my kids out to the 'haunted' cemetary in our area this Halloween :)
Hello
Just found your blog and enjoyed reading about your spooky bridge.
When I was growing up we had a spooky ghost railway line where apparently trains full of ghosts could be heard passing by.
Your blog is great.
what a great post
It's always so super to share those kind of things
I don't have any haunt here in my village, but when I was young, in my grand mother town there was an old water tower and once with friends we went there at night
we heard strange noises and I had the fear of my life =)
I'm not very brave
xxxxxx
I would probably be unable to walk on that bridge.
:) Your daughter really turns up the animals... I bet she hold her own if she foulnd a goat-eating troll.
I love this! We had cry baby bridge in my lil' OK town! One year my girls and I googled haunted areas around us. We drove out to hunt for a floating orb in a field, we didn't see it but on the way home we drove the girls slowly through a cemetary and they screamed like crazy!!!! It was a hoot!!!
