I'm Finally a COWgirl

Living in rural Oklahoma, I have seen plenty of cowboys and cowgirls. I was not one. I rode horses a few times with friends but never felt comfortable. My family never owned livestock, horses, and the like. I chose to wear tennis shoes, not boots, no cowgirl hats or flannel either...yet, to some, my surroundings made me 'country' enough to be considered a cowgirl.

This stereotype followed me into adulthood. A few years ago, I met an older man from another state. We had a nice conversation and at some point I found him just staring at me with a smile.

I wondered if I had said something wrong or awkward. When I asked, he said with a twinkle in his eye, "I love the way you talk. I could listen to you all day."  Okay...okay...so I have a SOUTHERN accent BUT I still wasn't a cowgirl....until yesterday...

A neighbor's cows somehow managed to get onto the family land. My dogs would NOT stop barking at them as they leisurely ate grass. After hours of chaos, I decided they had to leave.

I don't have a horse but we have a Kawasaki MULE (like a 4-wheeler). My daughter grabbed her plastic BB shooter and we decided we'd spook them to the far end of the pasture away from our dogs' eyes.

Trying to recollect the sounds made by cowboys from old western movies, I attempted to vocalize some sounds to get the cattle moving. I rushed at them full speed, with plastic BBs shooting, my voice blurting out "Aye, yai, yai!" "MOOOOOOve it!" and my daughter howled like a coyote. (I don't think cowboys sound like Charo or the song from Madagascar or coyotes. (giggles) )

Cow dung and plastic BBs still flying, I swerved the MULE back and forth like a cattle dog would herd livestock. We were screaming random sounds and laughing so hard that spit was blowing out the sides of our mouths in the wind.

What a sight we must have been! I'm sure a video of it would have won money. The cattle made their way to the back of the pasture and found a gate to bolt through.

Proud of ourselves, we giggled our way back home. I said to my daughter, "Who needs a horse when you have a MULE. We only need to feed this some gas as needed."

We both agreed it was really fun but later realized we made a serious mistake. Now we are officially...gulp...COWgirls.

Thank ya'll for readin. ;-)

Oh brill...I wish someone could have vidoed it...I bet it would be hilarious. Living in the West of Ireland we often find ourselves getting cattle out of the garden but somehow it isnt as fun as your experiences seem to be. Maybe if we had more sun and big cowboy hats lol

Nothing wrong with being a cowgirl! I once had to "guard" a group of cows. I had driven through the pasture fences by accident. The cowboy asked me to watch the cows and I was like "how?" like an idiot. He said to do a dance like (he showed me) and I wasn't about to do THAT. He was probably pulling my leg!! The cows did have to come and sniff around my car though. They were just curious.

A cowgirl is a gal with guts and a gun! :) The only thing missing is a ground hog thrown into the mix. {This really sounds like a scene from a Chevy Chase movie. LOL}
