Progressive Prices

Well, we made some decisions on our health insurance. As we dug deeper and deeper we kept finding surprises. Here's a little analogy of a problem we saw:

Let's say a gallon of milk costs around $3 for the milk manufacturers to make a profit and keep the business running.

Now let's say that you walk up to buy some milk and see a price tag that says $2 if you make X dollars and $4 if you make XX dollars.

In other words, milk costs less if your income is below a certain amount and double what others pay if you make more than a certain amount.

This is how the health insurance was from my husband's company.

That's odd. I know with my company, if you are a smoker or tobacco user, you have to pay more for the premiums than non smoker or non tobacco users do. THAT makes sense to me. But to go based on the amount of $$ you make? Hrumph.

And so it begins.

Yes, many of them are a percentage of income. The price of everything seems to be getting out of control. The price of groceries is insane. A loaf of regular white bread here - $3.49 A regular size box of Oatmeal Crisp cereal - $5.19 Madness!

I agree, and I feel after the drought that the worst is yet to come.

Parsley we are so lucky over here that we don't need to worry about health care. Lucky indeed. Peeps over here should be more grateful. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly

Food prices will go up especially with so many strange weather events: people seem to forget crops depend upon the climate and each year we are having to try and guess what the weather will be like to try and work out what will grow well: I got it right this year but horribly wrong last year..such is life lol. I have never heard of health insurance like that..smoking, weight etc yes: income though???? Why..unless it is because they have to make up your lost earnings if you are ill?

I'm dealing with Medicaid right now. I would rather be paying for regular insurance. Have to find all new doctors for the girls and dentists. And you're generally treated like scum. I laugh at people who want this Obamacare - you can take it back! And making religious organizations go against their beliefs is so against our constitutional rights.

But yeah, really unfair on the health care.

That seems like a really awful way of determining who pays what. What's to motivate those to make less to ever make more, if they're never required to pay as much as others? Just a vicious circle, it sounds like :(

Just another symptom. We just voted in unbridled socialism in America. It's only going to get worse. I think most people just don't have a clue about what lies ahead. Half of the country who is not working is depending upon the other half who is working. How long before those who are working get sick and tired of breaking their backs so the government can steal their income?
