I keep reading that Google Reader is going away this summer and see people trying to find new ways to organize the blogs they read. I happen to read posts the archaic way...by the reading list on the 'dashboard'. It's the place I go to moderate comments (to avoid spam). It gives newer posts at the top and I see all the blogs I follow on the left. Won't this still work for all of us on blogger? Why the worry?
I hope we don't loose connections by switching to 'bloglovin' or some other 'reader'!!!!
Easter movies:
Have you been watching the television series 'The Bible' on the History Channel? It does tell some stories in the Bible from a historical point of view but I don't really like it. I think it can be very confusing because it is trying to condense hundreds of years of information, focusing on dramatic, often violent, events without an explanation of God's plan and reasons. It leaves the viewer feeling upset rather than filled up and a new or non-Christian would be left with more questions than answers.
What about the movie Passion of the Christ, by Mel Gibson? Have you seen it? I haven't. I saw clips at church and I could not stomach it. I know that many Christians feel it is a must see but I do not need to see a man, depicting my Savior, being brutalized. I KNOW what Christ did for us and it makes my heart weep even THINKING about it.
For Easter movies, we always watch the old Ten Commandments, with Charlton Heston. Now THAT was a well done film! Viewing it is on the list this weekend, along with a fun-filled Easter basket for the teen daughter. ;-) She may be growing up but she still wants a basket.
How do you feel about these movies? Do you watch any particular movies this time of year?

I agree with you about those movies.
I use the blogger dashboard too. I am hoping this continues to work.
I also use the old fashion way of reading my blogs.... my understanding is that it will continue to work. I hope so!
We don't watch anything particular but we think 10 commandments is a good choice. We love those old epics.
Dashboard fine for us too.
Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
I'm with you about google reader. I read my posts off the dashboard as you do. But since the news about "reader", I've BEEN asking the same questions you are, and can't seem to find the answer from ANYONE! (admittedly, perhaps I'm not asking it clearly enough). I'm even wondering now, with all the hype, if we will even have a followers gadget on our right side bar anymore??? I'm just so confused about the whole thing, I wish SOMEONE would make it clear to all of us... As for the movies, I only carry the "Basic" cable channels, so I can't view the first movie you speak of, though I've heard of it. I DID see the Passion of Christ, and am glad I saw it, but the brutally violent part were most definitely disturbing, as intended I'm sure. It left me feeling I would NOT need to see it twice.. I haven't seen the Ten Commandments since I was a kid! I would like to see that one again, honestly. Do they still show that on t.v., or do I have to rent it, I wonder. I'll have to look that up. ~tina
I also use the old fashion way of reading my blogs....i try new way but i come back to the old one after sometime :)
Well it looks like I'm in the same pickle barrel as everyone else here. I too use Dashboard to follow and manage my blog list. I don't know how to do it any other way. I think I looked at the Google Reader once and it all confused me. I hope I don't have to use something else. And do we have to re=follow the blogs of those who choose to make the switch? So many questions and not enough answers.
I have never watched that Mel Gibson movie either for the same reasons. I watched a couple of the Bible shows while still at home but can't get them here.
Hope it doesn't turn into a nightmare. We heard the Bible was awesome
Snorts,
Benny & Lily
Chiming in here as an old fashioned dashboard reader too! Hope the new changes don't get too commplicated...
As far as the movies go, we have dvr'd the new series but haven't watched yet. Hollywood just can't seem to do justice to the truth~
Hi Parsley! I too read blogs off the Dashboard and am not concerned as of yet. I thought someone said they copied and pasted their list of us all and transferred it to bloglovin'.
My husband watched the first Bible program on the History Channel and was not impressed.
I never watched the Passion of the Christ for the same reason. UNTIL last month. I must say, it really drives Jesus' sacrifice home. It does.
I've just started checking out bloglovin' I wasn't using googlereader anyhow so I won't miss it!
I have been using both Dashboard and Reader. There are quite a few blogs that I've subscribed to through the link at the bottom of blogs where it says Subscribe to: Posts (Atom) and that's what shows up in Reader but not in Dashboard (at least not for me).
I'm trying Feedly and Bloglovin. Both imported my subscriptions without issue. I figure I'll try these news while I still have Reader and when the time comes, make a decision then. I still haven't figured out how to add a new blog to my subscribed list in either Feedly or Bloglovin.
There are pros and cons to each one and, like you, there still hasn't been answers to all the questions I have.
We have been watching The Bible on the History Channel and I have been doing a bible study along with the series, but I do find that I have to watch each episode more than once just to figure it all out. The Ten Commandments was like the bible stories we learned in Sunday School. I do find the History Channel program to be confusing and, in my opinion, very graphic.
Hi Parsley, that's the way I read blogs....all I know....I agree on the movies....Spring Blessings Francine..
The only problem I had with my Google dashboard is that there were blogs that didn't use Blogger. What then? So I'm using Feedly and little by little I'm getting used to it. Even though I have it set up as a list, it still allows me to go to each one, see their photos, and leave a comment - like I'm doing now. I like it, but it is taking some getting used to.
I'd like to see 'Bible' but we don't have cable. Maybe I can rent it somewhere?
BTW, I haven't seen Passion of the Christ either. The problem I have with it is that people focus on crucifixion. The Romans crucified many people at that time. It's the perfect, sinless Christ willingly going to the Cross, being crucified, bearing the punishment for my sin and bearing the full wrath of God for that sin - that is the difference between Him being crucified and anyone else.
Afternoon Friend
I have been watching the Bible and agree it is violent, but have enjoyed watching some of it compared to what else is on tv But my husband hasn't cared for it either.
Thank you for the recipe I cant wait to try.
Woolie Hugs
Trace
I have not been The Bible. I would like to watch it, but all at one time. I love The Ten Commandments. I just watched it a couple of weeks ago. Checked it out on DVD from Library.
I read my blogs I follow from the dashboard too. I hope I can still do this.. I dont like change.. lol
So do you know if the blogs on the dashboard are going to stay or are they part of the google reader system? Just wondering.
And I do watch the movies myself - I agree it is a bit violent. But I feel I do learn something about things.
Have a blessed Easter,sandie
I went with a group of friends to see the Mel Gibson movie. It was gruesome and I would never see it again. And now that he s a little whacky, I wouldn't want to support him artistically anyway. I haven't been watching The Bible series, but I have been curious about it.
I'm using the dashboard too...I hope it won't stop !
Have a great Easter sweetie
big hugs
xxx
I read blogs the same way Parsley. It works for me?
I haven't really thought about Easter movies. HMMMMM.....
Have a wonderful Eastertime, children are never too old to have a litle Easter choccie, my son loves his Easter egg and he's 28!!
Parsley,
I am probably the only blogger that doesn't use any of these organizational tools. If I want to visit a blog, I type in the address. I have seen just about every biblical movie ever made except Passion of Christ which I will eventually watch, if only to support Mel Gibson who was snubbed by his colleagues for making a Christian film. I've seen portions of The Bible series. I thought the casting for Satan was superb. :) We have Easter Egg hunts each year at the Fairfield House and baskets for everyone, including my mother. You are never to old to play and celebrate!
Your Friend,
Deborah
I use Reader because there are a bunch of blogs I follow that aren't Blogger-based (Dashboard used to support this, but I'm not sure it does anymore), and because I don't have to visit each blog to read the posts (some blogs can take a LONG time to load!) That being said, if you're using Dashboard, it should continue to work. At least that's my theory since there's no warning about that going away.
I'm totally with you on The Passion...our pastor sometimes does a medically explicit description of crucifixion on Good Friday or on Easter, I can barely stand to listen to it. I kind of feel the same way about watching Holocaust movies, except 10 billion times worse...I know these bad things happened and I don't really need to torture myself with watching them. My imagination is quite bad enough!!
Yes I too have been watching the Bible on History channel and I agree with you in the rushed telling of the story. I watched an interview with Roma Downey this morning and she said she wanted to "re-tell" the stories of the Bible to make them more updated. Hmmmm...I think the BIBLE is the BIBLE for a reason and it's not to be treated as something that needs to be changed.
Okay off my soapbox.
I agree with some of your other followers and that I only use a feeder for the blogs I can;t read by Dashboard but I have included all my blogs I follow to BLOGLOVIN to have as a back-up.
Happy Easter to you and yours.
God Bless,
-m-
I wrote on my blog about feed readers, a little bit to explain to those who don't know how useful it can be. No one will lose contact, in fact, it's the other way around :) feed readers are useful tools, you have more options than using the Dashboard.
It's like washing dishes, you can do it by hand or on the machine. In the end you do the same, it's only about having a better tool to help you do the same and faster ;)
What, no Veggie Tales on your list of must sees??? We have recorded The Bible, but haven't watched it yet. Must admit, I have never watched all of the Ten Commandments and haven't seen Passion of the Christ yet.
I think we'll be watching A Very Veggie Easter Collection tonight with Nathan - fun!
I've not seen a movie (and had movie theater popcorn) in ages! I was gonna see the Hobbit one - but it got past me!
We have always watched "He is Risen "which is a child's video depicting the life and death of Christ, my hubby loves "Peter and Paul" and we also watch "Jesus of Nazareth". We are not fans of the bible currently on T.V. Glossing over God's word and making it politically correct to appease the masses does absolutely nothing for me! The Word of God is the truth and many can not handle it!
I liked using reader because I follow a couple of hundred blogs and I have them in wonderful categories depending on what the purpose of the blog is. So I can separate out my knitting and cross stitch blogs.
