People Games: Checkers vs. Chess

I was told that I play 'checkers'. I take things one move at a time and I evaluate the other player's moves, one move at a time.

Some play 'chess'. They have or see a strategy/goal. They are thinking several moves ahead and how the different pieces will play off each other.

What are our goals in playing 'life'? Are we being hateful in private while seeming loving in public? Do we make fun of someone behind their backs but act like we accept them to their faces? Are we trying to snare someone by daring them to make certain 'moves'?

I've been told my way of 'playing' is naive and it opens me up to hurts. I can't disagree, but for me, it seems the only way to live. Granted, I usually loose at checkers but at least I know in my heart I played the game honestly.

Parsley,
I've played checkers and chess but I'm a card counter and my game is 21 (black jack). :)

PS I know you'd love to 'crown' some people but it's best not to play at all with them!

I am not sure what I am. I don't think I make fun of people behind their backs too often, then act like they're fine face to face. To me that is not a trustworthy person. I am dealing with one such person this week. Noting too dramatic or too bad, but I am keenly aware of how she behaves behind my back. I just try to be the bigger person and back off. That person is not the center of my universe, so I find other things to do to occupy my time.

Well said Parsley, life is not a game. We can play chess but really don't have that competitive need to win. We hardly play for that reason. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

Hmmmm.. interesting post and my mind is just working much too slow right now to offer anything substantial, just off the cuff; but I would definitely say, when put in this kind of way, that I'm definitely more of a checkers player. Through the better part of any given day, my mind races all the time, with a hundred things of what I should have done, what I should do now, and what I should do later; but the only way I can HANDLE things is one thing at a time, one day at a time. I have enough trouble handling ME, than to sit and worry about how other people should be. I NEVER make fun of other people.. Well, unless they clearly are ASKING for it! (0; But NEVER to belittle someone, or to hurt someone's feelings! Have a great day! ~tina

What a great post, got me thinking..... I think I play both, depends on the situation andthe people. I do try to be honest and treat people as I would like to be treated.

I would say I play checkers as well. Why be calculating? And I can't even think ahead to what to make for dinner tonight, let alone think ahead in strategic moves with other people!

I try my best to play all games honestly.

I agree. I don't want cunning friends; I just want honest friends.

I 'play' checkers, one move at a time. People just don't like it when I play a card game for instance, that has tricks, like pinochle, and I don't keep track of who played what. Life is too short. I can't be bothered thinking how they might move. Sure hope they don't try to guess how I am going to move, cause it is never the same! Ha! It IS funny how my team wins tho!! Hugs!

I like to play to win, but always honestly! In the real world, I don't even know what I'm making for dinner the next day so I certainly don't have time to play "games" in real life! I'll take drama free any day.
