We had a wonderful July 4 celebration; friends, food, and fun. I think it might have been the best Independence Day celebration I've ever had.

I made Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings to share at our gathering. YUMMO! The recipe is at the bottom.

I'm thinking back to two years ago, today. That is the day I got a call about a Chihuahua running back and forth on the street in front of our house. It wasn't one of mine nor was it a pet sitting client. This baby girl was VERY SCARED and it took us hours in triple digit heat to catch her in a live trap. Despite signs, ads in the paper, and flyers on doors, no one claimed her.

She is still very scared of people and noise. Last night with the fireworks, she slept like a hat on my husband's head. He was more than happy to accomodate. Yeah, he's a pretty great guy!
___

Mt. Dew Apple Dumplings

  • 2 whole Granny Smith Apples
  • 2 cans (8 Oz. Cans) Crescent Rolls
  • 2 sticks Butter
  • 1-1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • Cinnamon, To Taste
  • 1 can (12 Oz.) Mountain Dew Soda

Preparation Instructions

Peel and core apples. Cut each apple into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan.
Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour entire mixture over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
(I suggest pouring out the extra liquid if you are not eating this right away.)

Aw, look at that sweet little thing! I spent three hours yesterday trying to locate the family who owned a little Pomeranian that showed up at our house (out in the country) and stood under the deck, barking like crazy. Drove Bridger and Misty nuts, and I didn't dare let them out. Finally found the home. These people had gotten the dog a week before and said they knew he was a runner, but thought that dogs in the country should be able to run. I had to tell the lady that it would be nice in theory, but I'm afraid of what my shepherd might do if it came in the yard again. I hope she figures out something, like training it to stay in the yard instead of just expecting it to do so!
