Do any of you dye your own fabric? Once I took cotton tea colored Monaco and dipped it in blackberry tea for a darker brown. It was wonderful.
Recently, I took white Monaco and played with it by putting it in a sink of water with a touch of black dye. I was going for a light gray but it wasn't dark enough SO...I took my wet fabric, a wet paper towel and some blue spray on tye-dye and WIPED it on gently.
It gave the fabric a slightly mottled effect with some of the very light gray showing through. PERFECT!
I know the picture is lousy so you'll have to imagine. It looks like a blue sky after a stormy morning and it is perfect for my stitching project...BUT I CANNOT SHOW my progress because it's an exchange piece.
So...do you dye fabrics at home? I wonder how these companies do it?!?!

I have never done this. It sounds very interesting.
Nope, I am too much of a chicken :)
Yours looks beautiful!

That is really pretty. What dyes did you use? Hope the tea is working lol
Blimey not the clumsy peeps. She probably stopped at tie-dye. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
I used black RIT brand dye from a bottle for the light gray effect. The spray on tye-dye brand I can't remember. It was in the kids craft section lol
NO...I need more tea but I did visit the site ;-)
It is fun to experiment. You can use the same method and get a different look each time. I like to use fruits and veggies too. Never tried the spray on...
i once dyed with tea and it came out ok.
your is looking fine too :)
I have never dyed any fabric....not even with Rit Dye.
But...I did dye paper with tea. It was a project I was doing with my students. We dyed the paper by dipping and dipping it in strong tea, crumpled the paper, and burned (I did the burning) the edges to make it look old. Then, later, they each wrote a message and they rolled it like parchment it and melted wax and used a sealing ring to stamp it. Like I said, it was a project that I did with my students for school (elementary)...but I've never dyed fabric.
Very interesting how you do it; thank you for the photos, too!!
Very nice dye job, Parsley. I use tea and coffee to dye my own linen at home, but haven't tried anything but neutrals as I am not a big stitcher of colored fabby...but, I do love the effect you achieved! I may have to give it a go to see what I end up with, LOL.
I would be afraid too. Good on you though for doing it.
I've never tried it, sounds like fun. Lovely colour.
I dyed wool pieces in kool- aid, red, green, orange, works out good....also used tea and coffee for a grungy look,my fav......that's all I ever did, Francine.
I see you are an experimenter! In the 70's, I used to tie dye t-shirts.
I would be way to afraid to dye my own things!!!!!
I wish I had the courage to try!! :p
Never done that.
I have dye using tea, coffee and then black walnuts, love the way that turn out. I purchase cheap pieces and also use a coupon so if it does turn out Oh well. Sally from Oregon

I have dye using tea, coffee and black walnut. Love the way the black walnut did. I purchase cheap cloth and use a coupon. If it doesn't work Oh well and if it does go for better piece. Sally from Oregon
When I was in school, I would dye my jeans to make them retain color. But I stopped doing that, it became too much of an hassle. I am not yet advanced in cross stitchology, so I haven't dyed fabrics as of yet. Looks like yours turned out good! :)
I haven't yet but I need to tea dye some fabric for the new year.
Dying fabric is always scary! Your results were lovely.
Last time I dyed something I made such a mess it took weeks to clean up - my place was almost declared a superfund site!
