Spreading Love

I'm so thankful to have people around me with 'servant hearts'. A close friend of mine told me about an opportunity to serve the needy in our community. There is a place they call 'Compassion Outreach' that offers free medical, dental, and eye care as well as a hot meal and a clothes closet. It is a Christian based ministry built with the hands of volunteers.

I was REALLY impressed with their set up and how organized it was. I was also impressed with the hearts of the people serving. Everyone just jumped in and found something to do.

As people went through the line they looked us in the eye and thanked us. Very touching.  My friend is a Louisiana native so she made gumbo for Mardi Gras and I made cake for 75.  Many came back asking for seconds and she served them half a serving extra until all were through the line. One 6-7 year old girl got three bowls. (Do you know the story of the loaves and fish from the Bible? It seemed that the food was multiplied and we did have leftover gumbo in the end.)

I really needed to do this. I needed to get off my bottom and stop thinking about my medical issue and start thinking about others. Serving is a great medicine.

I was tired but happy. We shared 'love' for Valentine's Day.

Great idea and so compassionate. My Bible reading was just on that theme: faith without works is dead.
Glad you could help.

Compassion Outreach is an incredible organization. Our church is on the regular rotation to provide the meal and serve. I love being able to be a part of that. As you say, the people are so appreciative. And I'm so impressed with those who volunteer their time to provide care. Dr. Carpenter continued to do so even while she herself was undergoing chemo - a true servant's heart. Have you found out what's causing your fatigue and breathlessness? I've been praying for you.

Parsley,
I'm glad you are well enough to participate in community service. The best way to forget about our own problems is to help someone else with theirs. Love isn't love til you give it away! You are a beautiful person. I am honored to call you my friend.
