Back when I was a teen, it seemed everyone had big hair with spiral perms, neon shirts and EARRINGS. I did not have the later.
My mom never let me pierce my ears. I think it was because she thought that "Girls that pierce their ears are telling everyone they are 'fast'." Fast? I don't think I even knew what that meant back then.
Well, not unlike other teens, I felt rebellion swell up in my heart. It wasn't logical to me. So, I did something I shouldn't have done.
My best friend had moved out of state and I got to fly to see her. Their family supported my decision to get my ears pierced and my friend's mother signed a permission slip for me to pierce my ears, as though she were my own mother. (I was 16 or 17, I think.)
It was done. Every time my ears throbbed, I thought of the consequences I would face when I got home. My mind was consumed with the wrath I would endure. From past experiences, I assumed it wouldn't be pretty.
When I got home I confessed and explained what, why, and how. I lived! In fact, she just pooh-poohed it.
Hey...I didn't party or do drugs and I certainly wasn't 'fast'. It's just earrings, right? Right. But you know what...sometimes we get our 'just dues' late.
As a 30 year old adult I decided to get a second piercing for a little sparkle above the main earring. Slowly as I healed, my ears began itching. ITCHING so badly I had to go to a doctor.
I had developed an allergy to every....single...type...of earring. I tried them all. I couldn't wear yellow or white gold, or even (gulp) platinum.
Yeah...that'll teach me.

Hi Parsley
My mum was just the same as yours! Only when my younger cousin had her ears pierced did she agree. I was about 15 and the only one in my class with no earrings!
I'm sorry to hear about your earring allergy though - what a shame.
Bye for now.
Can you wear sterling silver? Stainless steel?
My Dad was exactly like that. He took it to the extreme though. He was 100% convinced that my sisters and I would be sluts by the time we were 16. Pregnant and all that stuff. It was pretty harsh.
My mom, suddenly, just got fed up with it and took me and my sister Katie to get our ears pierced. I was 11 years old. A few days went by, Dad didn't notice. But when he noticed, I endured the wrath of God through him. And by the time I was 16, I had 7 earrings in one ear and three in the other. Thats what rebellion does to you, hehehe
Oh my! That just isn't fair. I'm glad to see I inspired a post ;)
I am so sorry about your earring allergies. I have never had my ears pierced.
Oh my that sounds a bit like pay-back. LOL!
Pity you can't wear anything. Have a terrific Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
Parsley,
Thank Goodness you were a child of another decade and not this one or you might be sporting a tattoo or a body piercing. I hope there is some resolution to your earring dilemma.
Your Friend,
Deborah
My mom always had difficulty wearing earrings, they made her ears itch as well.
I had mine pierced when I was in my early teens, but as I grew I noticed that certain earrings would make them itch as well. I was told by my hairdresser to apply clear nail polish to the posts or hooks. I did and now can wear all sorts and styles. Every once in a while if I notice them starting to itch with a certain earring, I just reapply a clear coat!

Brilliant idea!
Now that makes me think. Consequences are so unexpected sometimes.
Smart idea with the clear nailpolish! I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced until I was 16! Talk about having to wait forever for a kid. And now, I rarely wear them.
I am the same way. I am allergic to earrings but I found out when I was 14. My ear lobe swell up to the point the ear went over the backing. It happen very fast. I had to get the earring surgically removed in the hospital.
Oh Parsley, to bad....me to chicken to get holes put in my ears, Francine.
Oh poor you friend.
I get the hives from everything.
So I know that itch. ugh..
I read your other post.
As sad as the Boston tragedy was .I to saw GODS love in so many.
Lifting up everyone effected.
Woolie Blessings

thankful I am able to get online today!
Been there, done that.
I giggled as I read your post. Why? Because I did almost the same thing! And when I got the second piercings above the first ones, they weren't pierced correctly and didn't heal well so I can't wear earrings in those piercings at all.
As if that wasn't payback enough, my youngest DD wanted a tattoo, but I wasn't willing to sign for to get one before she turned 18. So she found a youtube video on how to give yourself a tattoo and gave herself one! I wonder what her 'just dues' will be for that!
I've heard about the clear nail polish, worth a try!
I was allowed to have my ears pierced at 12 and then wanted an extra in the left ear. My parents were okay with that but when I did a third one by myself, my Dad called me a gypsy and said no more!
Surgical stainless steel or titanium could work, a lot of piercing places have it. Though people are piercing a lot more than their ears now. :)
