I am glad so many of you enjoyed the humor with us over yesterday's post, 'Squeak and Leak' and for the record, I had cleared it first with my girl before sharing. It was all in fun.
Speaking of 'leaks' I thought we pet owners could help one another out. My dogs haven't been perfect. Over the years, I've had some that 'marked territory', got to freaked out by the weather and wet the house, and one has a medical problem that causes her to leak in her sleep.
I've tried a lot of things to remove odors from carpet from vinegar washes to expensive enzymatic cleaners. I can tell you some items smelled worse than the piddle!
Here are the items I have had the best luck with. I use the 'Out!' first. If it's still wet, absorb as much as you can with towels then spray and rub it in. Let it sit for 5 minutes and soak it up with towels. After it dries I finish the area off with this type of Febreze. (Other scents give me a headache.)
I also shampoo the carpet with 'Simple Green' when I feel their 'oops areas' have had too much traffic.
So...please share your successes with us. What products do you use for dog or cat leaks?

Woody gets sick a lot (poor sensitive tummy) and it can be very hard to clean our light carpet, but what has worked best at our house is OxiClean - no bleach, no smell... And I finish up by blotting with cloths just like you do.
I have to check at home, I have one that works pretty good. But, we really need to clean the carpets now that Charley has it mostly under control. Like professionally!
My mom also parsley has tried a zillion trillion products some purchased and natural...we use vinegar also and baking soda, dawn mixture that helps. Sometimes she resorts to bleach but she doesn't like to use that cos she doesn't want the residue to get on our paws.

I will have to recommend your choices for Leak Stink to my folks - they have a leaky German Shepard dog and this might be the stuff!
Thanks!
Fortunately, the only leaks we've had have been while we're gone, and the dogs are then gated into the kitchen (vinyl). But Bridger is dealing with nearing-end-of-life issues (which makes me very sad), but I am glad you wrote about this today. I will be using your advice.
I use oxy (Sun) and then use carpet fresh on it.
Have a wonderful day
Thanks for this advice--I have a cat who like to think and tink outside the box!
We have our share of accidents too. First it was with our cats... and you know what... you can NEVER get cat pee smell out. EVER. I tried everything, including vinegar. It took a couple of new carpet cycles to finally be rid of the smell. The last guys who changed our carpet said he had a cat too and knew what to do. He did something to the concrete under the floor and presto, our living room smells so much better now. And I hate the smell of vinegar. It just STINKS!
When we go out, we have the boys confined to one room. So we keep that carpet shampooed on a daily basis. Doesn't help with ALL the smell though, so I am going to try your idea!
Great advice.
I've always used Nature's Miracle on the carpet, rugs and furniture. It even cleaned up my daughter's liquid foundation spill on light carpet.
