Dear Bloggy

Dear Bloggy,

What happened to everyone here in blogland? I see some have not blogged for months! I also see some blogs have stopped following me but I still follow them. What should I do?

Dear Confused,

I get an occasional reminder that some on my reading list do not have 'feeds' anymore. Maybe it is time for both of us to go line by line and DELETE inactive blogs to make room for new ones.

I know it is hurtful when you feel someone stops 'following' your blog, especially when you still follow and comment on theirs. If you have been a loyal follower and they haven't reciprocated, I suggest doing the same thing as above, DELETE, unless you want to read along for the content rather than the connection.

Keep blogging! It is a great creative outlet as well as a place to journal your thoughts.

Hmmm...it could be summer and bloggers aren't on their computers (or other devices) as much or it could be others are using FB and other social media more.

Have a good start to August, Parsley!

Every now and then I'll go through the list of blogs I follow and if they haven't posted for 6 months, then I stop following them and then I save the site in my browsers favorites. If they haven't updated in a year then I delete them altogether. This seems to work well for me. :)

I lose some too - I try just not to worry about it - but it is hard. I think reader might have done something I am not sure. sandie

I have also noticed that some are not as active as they had been... it is anyone's guess why, but I do sometimes delete them from my list but continue to keep myself listed as a follower. I also notice that some stop following me, but I blog for myself as much as for the friendship. Keep blogging and follow those who interest you.

I follow for the connection, even though there's not always reciprocation. Oh well, that's life.

I don't know about others - but blogging mojo comes and goes - and I've struggled to post something (anything?) some weeks just to show signs of life.

It has been a quiet spell of late.

I never used Google Reader. I have a list of blogs that I follow at the bottom of my blog (it's a widget) and I set it so that the most recently updated blogs are on top.

I know I've been away from my blog because of grad school. I haven't lost any followers that I know of, but I have a little note in my welcome message letting my followers know why I'm away.

I have not been blogging or reading much this summer. I don't intend to stop because I really enjoy visiting and writing but life has been quite busy and eventful lately. It is good to catch up with you today.

Moving has kept me from blogging and commenting of late...but, now that things are settling down, I plan to be back with a vengenance, LOL.

I do the same as Sharon...no posts in 6 months are removed from my visual listing, no posts for a year and I stop following altogether. I lose and gain followers on a daily basis...I think it is the computer goblins playing around with me, so I just let it go.

The fact that Google reader went may have something to do with it. However a good clean out every so often is good advice. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly

Dear Confused in GA, one thing that is going on right now is that it is summer. The kids are out of school, there's vacation to take and trips to go on. The computer has been taken away by the kids who want to play video games on it all day long. There is no more time to blog until school starts again. I, too see a lot of bloggers who stopped blogging months ago and I miss them, but something must be going on in their lives to prevent them from blogging at the time. Another thing is definitely since Google Reader decided to drop out of sight, people are scrambling to find a way to keep up with their readers. I know I am having that problem too. Have patience, hang in there. When I decide to delete, I delete the blogs that haven't been updated in six months at least.

I read a recent article that said blogging had seen its *heyday* and was declining. But then again, I don't believe everything I read!

In the three years that I have blogged, I have discovered that there are ups and downs in traffic and comments, etc. - and very often there is no way to judge the reasons for it. I do know that visiting and commenting on other blogs is a good way to keep your own blog *alive*!

I do think fewer people comment in the summertime--there are just too many outdoor tasks to do and kids are home from school. I've noticed a big decline in blog posts from some long-time bloggers so perhaps, as Sharon read, blogging is on a decline.

hmm i am confused too ...'may be its because of the new reader.

I can't speak for everyone else but for me I slow down blogging over summer due to holidays/nights out/its just too damn warm to stitch. All that mixed together means very little stitching progress which makes for what I feel would be a very boring blog post.

Well,I am very active lately,as I am on my holidays...Check the blogs you are following if they still exist, perhaps not,or try to write a mail to them, asking what happens with them,if they did not post for months...

My blogging friends are friends indeed to me. I haven't met most of them in person (perhaps one out of my entire list)...but I feel close to them and enjoy hearing about their days/months/years and hope that I bring some ray of happiness to them either through my blog or through my comments to them on theirs. If that is all that I ever gain from blogging, that is enough for me. To bring happiness, to be an ear, to develop a friendship is worth the time that it takes to blog. I also enjoy sharing my thoughts with my blogging friends.
Parsley, I hope that you know that I enjoy coming here, enjoy your blog and your friendship.
Sending you great big hugs,
Jackie

I do think its been because of the summer and the HEAT!! YUK! Here it had been extremely muggy, hot and we had humidity. Not use to it here in Northern California. Has it been hot were you live? Now its been much cooler. Lots of people travel and have their children home during the summer too. You have a great week.

I go through my list every so often, and if someone hasn't blogged in six months, I delete them. Some will in fact seem to just delete their blogs and when I see that the blog can't be found of course I delete them as well.

Don't give up on your own blogging please. I enjoy it as many others do I'm sure. Some people just aren't in the habit of leaving comments.

I'm still here following. I don't use one of the readers for blogland. I read from my dashboard. I guess a lot of bloggers are busy in the summer.

I think life's demands sometimes cause people to step away from blogging {reading and writing}. Someone may be sick. It's the summer, schedules change, children are home from school and people travel.
I often unplug to find true inspiration. Blog about life. Don't live to blog.

I'd rather have a dozen loyal followers that comment regularly than hundreds that don't.

I put my top 30 blogs in a separate folder in my reader and comment on those, the others I read and comment when I have time!! I do read them all though and look at the gorgeous pictures.

I know my blogging has been more sparse this year ~ just a factor of how busy my boys have been keeping me. I do try to comment when I can, but sometimes I just read to catch up and don't comment.
