What a lucky gal I am. Terri (Dixie Sampler) sent me a sweet Easter package. I just LOVE the adorable pincushion! Thank you, Terri! I feel so special.
I've been trying to learn some of my county roads so I can assist the fire dept and EMS. It amazes me how hard it is to find a location, especially in rural areas. GPS is no real help. I wanted to share some tips on how you can help police, fire, and EMS find you, faster:
1. Put your house numbers at the road side or on your mailbox that can be seen from BOTH DIRECTIONS of the road. Reflective is best and the larger the better.
2. Consider hiding a key or having a key padlock for quick entry. You can tell the key code over the phone when you can't get to the door.
3. Consider installing an emergency light that can flash to identify your home such as this one http://www.amazon.com/GE-911-Emergency-Light-Switch/dp/B005L43FUM
Stay safe and happy my friend! I'm off to ride on the ambulance tomorrow. Hoping for a good day!

Those are some great ideas!
In my area, it is "code" that the house number has to be on both sides of a mailbox and visible in the dark (when a light shines on it).
Never thought of the blinking light thing... or how to get the door unlocked. Living alone makes be a little leery / worried about times when I might need help - I've thought about first alert.
Sometimes my mom loses herself and we haf to find her and bring her back home....its just something us pugs are equipped to do.

Thank you for these very important tips that could save a life. Good luck with your navigating of the back roads. You are right that there are many areas where a GPS is of little assistance.
Those are all great tips that would really help!
Sweet goodies :)
Great ideas....I think you would struggle in Ireland though. We have no post codes (zip codes) unless your in Dublin, no street names, no road names and no house numbers. Turn left at the field of brown and white cows and right at the black and white cows is a direction I have indeed had to give someone lol
:-) you are very welcome my friend!!
Love the tips...will be putting these to good use! Enjoy the ride...stay safe.
Great tips and thanks for sharing. Happy Easter!
Great tips, Parsley! We have big numbers posted on the fence post at the end of the driveway. And you are so right about GPS and its lack of recognition of many rural roads.

Great tips but being urban we don't have those problems. Oh ambulance tomorrow. Sounds exciting. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
You just answered an unasked question I have had for years!! There is a house on the other side of the trial that is behind my house. It has an orange strobe light attached to the inside of the front roof and I have always, always wondered what the heck that was for. Since I am deaf, I understand INDOOR alerts and signals, but this was OUTSIDE and I don't think I've ever seen or heard of outside signals for the deaf. So that orange strobe light has been bothering me for some time. WHAT is it. WHAT was its purpose. Now I know! Its a signal for emergencies... how interesting and ingenious. I never would have thought. That is a really good idea.
OH, and I got me one of those chocolate covered peeps from the Easter Bunny myself. Guess who is waiting to share it with me.
Good tips each and every one...
And what a sweet gift from Terri--enjoy all those goodies :)

Beautiful & lovely gifts from Terri!
Great tips thank you.

Parsley,
Our township made everyone put a post with house number on it in front of their homes. They provided specifics, so they are all uniform and located in the exact place on all properties.
Parsley's parcels are always pleasing!
Your Friend,
Deborah
