Sunday Thoughts: Pearls

Do you find pearls beautiful?

"The formation of a natural pearl begins when a foreign substance slips into the oyster between the mantle and the shell, which irritates the mantle. It's kind of like the oyster getting a splinter. The oyster's natural reaction is to cover up that irritant to protect itself. The mantle covers the irritant with layers of the same nacre substance that is used to create the shell. This eventually forms a pearl." (link)

Isn't it interesting how an oyster can turn something irritating into something beautiful that people covet.

Can we be like oysters? Can we take the irritating things in our lives and let them be turned into something beautiful? Can we learn from our mistakes and allow God to cover them with layers of his love and forgiveness, thus forming a pearl?

Some people see our 'pearls' and think of them as flaws. I think God sees our 'pearls' as beautiful because it shows that we've let him work in our hearts.

What a wonderful thought for this Sunday! Hey, when I come to your blog, my pointer turns into a little pig or something and it takes quite awhile to get it to change, can you help this?

It would be nice if we could be like oysters.

Parsley,
Wonderful post! {as always} I thought this post was going in another direction. GOD gives us the CHOICE to change life irritants into pearls. Challenges can be a source for growth to make us stronger or a reason to complain. Regarding 'living irritants' Lincoln said it best: Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?
