Hogs in the Field
My daughter enjoys walking in the woods. Yesterday she came back to tell us about some feral hogs. We got in the 4wheeler and took off to see if we could catch them on film.
This was the clearest shot I had of them because they were running away fast. There were three adults and about a dozen piglets. One adult was somewhat lame. Their snouts were slightly different from domestic hogs and they were covered in bristly fur.
They are causing a lot of damage rooting up the pasture and under pecan trees looking for food. We pondered what the future holds as this group continues to grow.
I worry for the safety of my daughter and others that are in the area. The hogs can be territorial but so can humans. People may choose to control the population. I worry about stray bullets and snap traps.
I know something has to be done. Strange how cute and harmless they look, but looks can be deceiving.

Oh you are right. I have read about the dangers of them!!
I do wish you had a clearer shot of the piglets though. Oh well.
That is the oddest thing! And I don't blame you for worrying. I've heard these *wild pigs* are notoriously mean, too. Yes, looks can be deceiving. I was amazed at how much a hornet hurt me this summer!!
GOD BLESS!
Gosh and they look big. Let us know what happens. Stay safe. Have a marvelous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
The adults look so huge! Can the population be controlled through hunting and is wild hog good to eat like regular pigs? My BIL is a pig farmer and he says all pigs can be mean and dangerous. How far are they from your house?
I never met a pig as mean as a human: they are just very protective especially of their young...a bit like us really. And they are big enough to do us damage. Do you have any boar (wild pig) farms near you? Their meat is healthier than commercial pork and it might be a bit kinder than some young buck practicing their shooting skills on them. Or call animal welfare, they may trap them humanely for you.
Those are really large pigs. Stay safe!
Parsley,
I love piglets. If they ever manage to develop a micro tea cup or pocket pig, I would have one! :D
Wild hogs and boars can be very dangerous. My sister was chased by one when she lived in South Carolina. Tell your daughter to be careful, especially since spring time will soon be upon us.

Wow!!! They do look big.....to bad though everything wild has to be trapped, kinda sad.....But know that they can do damage, but so can humans, Francine.
I just learned yesterday that a domestic pig, after being on the loose for even just a few months, reverts to wild, growing tusks and bristly hair. They are so dangerous and terrible on corn crops up here - and evidently pecans there. That's a real problem.
Wow, they are huge.
WOW, you got quite close to them to take this picture.
Too scary for me, hope they don't bother you!
*does his best, but still very bad, Homer Simpson*
Hmmm... free range baaaaa-con!
