Seizing Snuffy

There is nothing quite so disconcerting as hearing screams in the middle of the night. This is what has been happening with our old dog, Snuffy. She has been having nightly seizures with screaming for a couple of months now.

Yes, you read that right...nightly seizures for two months. Most nights she would have two. Some nights, like last night, she would have 4-5.

She is always resting when she seizes. She breathes in, her head arches back, her legs stiffen, and her vocal cords let out a scream followed by twitching...then it's over. She doesn't even act like she knows it has happened and goes back to sleep thinking we woke her up petting her.

We had given it a good try medicating with herbal/homeopathic meds first. We tried supplements and watching her diet to see if there were any triggers.

Here she is at the vet's office. She was either disgusted or scared and wouldn't look at me.

She is old and has a heart issue. Much of her 'fat' is really retained water. She has water around her heart and in her belly. We were afraid of putting her through pokes and testing but the vet said most of the time they never find the cause of seizures so they would just medicate in her case. It will take two weeks for it to kick in. (crossing fingers)

I really hope we all get some quality of life back. It's wearing all of us out.

That is terrible. My Millie had a couple of seizures a few years ago and it was horrible. And we never found out why. I hope the medication helps

Oh, poor girl! Our Sheila has had seizures, but it's only been a few times - same thing, she's been resting and doesn't seem to be aware when it's over... I hope the medication help - and everyone can be at ease and get their rest!

Poor Snuffy -I remember that being at the Vet look... and I can feel what You are going through - a few months back Miss Peach was having some bad breathing issues and at 3am she got off the bed and just fell over - we rushed her to the 24 Hour emergency Vet.... and two days later left with.... Miss Peach in better condition and breathing 100% better, three pills to take twice a day and a giant Vet Bill. Since then she has lost a lot of the water weight she had been carrying around and is running & barking with the who-hound-herd, everyday we have her with us is a blessing

Awww poor Snuffy. I know, I had to go through setting an alarm in the middle of the night to keep Mabel medicated for her back issues at the top of summer. It is wearing after weeks. Hang in there.

Aww, poor Snuffy. My little Snickers had some heart and fluid retention issues and was put on lasix. It did help make her more comfortable. Enjoy every day you can with Snuffy.

Poor Snuffy. She speaks with her whole body from what I've seen... her joy and her sadness. And her eyes! Her eyes are so soulful. I hope the medicine helps!

Poor Snuffy. The story and the sad little picture of her brought tears to my eyes. Praying that the meds will work - both for her sake and yours.

Remembering this:

"You care for people and animals alike, O LORD."

(Psalm 36:6)

GOD BLESS!
